There is no problem with the endorsement by Team PNoy campaign manager Senator Franklin Drilon of Mayor Evelio Leonardia for congressman and Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson for mayor of Bacolod in the May polls, Bacolod Councilor El Cid Familiaran said yesterday.
Drilon and boxing icon Manny Pacquiao publicly endorsed Leonardia and Sayson, who are both candidates of the Nationalist People’s Coalition, including their vice mayoralty candidate Greg Gasataya, during a mass wedding Saturday in Bacolod where they served as principal sponsors. “I see no problem with the endorsement since there is an alliance between the Liberal Party, Nationalista Party and the NPC,” Familiaran, a member of the LP, said. Drilon endorsed candidates for congressman, mayor and vice mayor, he said, while the LP candidates in Bacolod are all councilors. Familiaran said that, aside from himself, other LP candidates for councilor are incumbents Sonya Verdeflor, Archie Baribar and Elmer Sy, former councilors Jocelle Batapa-Sigue and Anna Marie Palermo, Mario Gerona, Tony Wong, Edwin Balajadia, Andy Hagad, Frank Carbon and Ray Carmona. He said all 12 LP councilor candidates have been invited to attend the Team PNoy rally on Friday and that there will also be a mini-rally of the LP Women at the Pavillon Hotel on the same day, he said. “With the endorsement of Drilon, who is the LP campaign manager, we could not ask for more,” Leonardia said. They were told by Drilon, it is definitely the three of them who are going to be endorsed and they are the ones organizing the LP rally in Bacolod on Friday at 5 p.m., he said. Leonardia said the complete team of PNoy will be arriving in Bacolod on Friday and they are inviting the public to come. He and Sayson have been talking to Drilon, he said, and they had anticipated that there is going to be a partnership between the LP and NPC. For some reason, Bacolod is considered by both the LP and NPC as a special case, he added. “I understand that the LP hierarchy has also accepted us as their candidates for congressman, mayor and vice mayor,” Leonardia said. Drilon earlier said that the NPC, of which Leonardia is a member, is their coalition partner. He said President Aquino is not joining the rally on Friday but the bulk of Team PNoy bets are expected to arrive. Team PNoy is composed of Juan Edgardo "Sonny" Angara (LDP), Paolo Benigno "Bam" Aquino IV (LP), Alan Peter Cayetano (NP), Francis Escudero (Independent), Ana Theresia "Risa" Hontiveros-Baraquel (Akbayan), Loren Legarda (NPC), Ma. Ana Consuelo "Jamby" Madrigal-Valade (LP), Ramon Magsaysay Jr. (LP), Aquilino Martin "Koko" Pimentel III (PDP-Laban), Grace Poe (Independent), Antonio Trillanes IV (NP), and Cynthia Villar (NP). Drilon said he is confident that, with the full support of the president, the Team PNoy candidates will win.*CGS BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO THE VISAYAN DAILY STAR

According to Petierre, he was very elated and thankful by the vote of confidence given to him by the members of the SP, as he cited the unanimous approval on his appointment. Petierre said his appointment was supported by opposition Councilors Sonya Verdeflor, Archie Barribar, El Cid Familiaran, Elmer Sy and Catalino Alisbo; and administration Councilors Dindo Ramos, Homer Bais, Al Victor Espino, Bobby Rojas, Mona Dia Jardin, Caesar Distrito and Em Legaspi Ang. Watchmen Daily Journal Bacolod City broke ground for what is going to be the biggest school building project in its history yesterday afternoon, a press release from the city said.
Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson and DepEd Superintendent of Schools Gemma Ledesma led the groundbreaking ceremony for the Educational Training Center Schools I P48 million, 3-storey, 48-classroom school building, to be constructed on the city's one-hectare property at the BREDCO area, under Barangay 16 headed by Bgy. Capt. Junjun Ligaya. City officials present were Councilors ElCid Familiaran, Archie Baribar, Em Ang, Elmer Sy, Caesar Distrito and Mona Dia Jardin, as well as DepEd officials, ETCS teachers and students. Fr. Norbert Cañada officiated at the blessing of the site. The façade of the school building is patterned after that of the Bacolod City Government Center. “We are very happy that DepEd, under Secretary Br. Armin Luistro, has chosen Bacolod City for its first city partner in its 50/50 school building partnership program. This way, our city only had to spend P24 million on the P48 million ETCS I project,” Leonardia said. “ETCS deserves to be expanded, because it caters to students coming from almost all barangays of the city,” he said. “Education is a great equalizer as exemplified by the lives of some prominent officials like Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile and former President Diosdado Macapagal who rose from lowly beginnings to national prominence because of being able to acquire good public education,” Leonardia added. “ETCS I is right in the heart of lower income families and, who knows that through the good education they get from this school, one of its students will rise to prominence like Sen. Enrile and President Macapagal,” Leonardia also said. “This is why I have always been supportive of the education sector of our city, and very thankful to the Sangguniang Panlungsod, led by Vice Mayor Thaddy Sayson, for their support in the construction of the Sum-ag Elementary School and also the Bacolod City College 3 storey, 18 classroom school building, costing P22 million, and now the ETCS I,” he added. Ledesma called the construction of the ETCS I “an answered prayer” for ETCS students and said she is very grateful to the City Mayor, the Vice Mayor, the Sangguniang Panglungsod members, and the School Board for their very strong support to public education. “ETCS I will decongest the existing ETCS area and the students there will no longer have to wake up very early, and will be able to sleep longer which is good for their health and growth,” Ledesma said, drawing an enthusiastic response from ETCS teachers and students. VISAYAN DAILY STAR Former Bacolod vice mayor Renecito Novero, who is running for the same post in the 2013 elections, yesterday said he should not be blamed for the decision of the three outgoing Nationalist People’s Coalition councilors not to support their party’s vice mayoralty candidate, Greg Gasataya.
Outgoing Councilors Homer Bais, Al Espino and Dindo Ramos had publicly announced that they are not supporting Gasataya’s bid but are backing up Mayor Evelio Leonardia and Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson, who are running for congressman and mayor, respectively. Bais and Ramos said they are supporting the candidacy of Novero who, they said, solicited their help, while Espino declined to comment on the matter. NPA also said hat. Novero also said that an apparent “break-up” among the NPC group, he has nothing to do with it. He added that aside from Bais and Ramos, Espino had also signified his support to him. Novero said he is elated over their decision to back up his bid to because the three outgoing councilors know his capacity having been with them at the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod for several years. Novero, also an NPC member, run under Grupo Progreso as Congressman in 2007 with Espino, Bais, Gasataya and Ramos, and sought re-election to the same position under the slate of former Bacolod Rep. Monico Puentebella. He also said he and the six candidates for councilor in his group dubbed as the “Magnificent Seven” will no longer announce whom to support for Mayor and Congressman. Novero is running for vice mayor of Bacolod together with Councilors El Cid Familiaran, Archie Baribar, Sonya Verdeflor and Elmer Sy, businessmen Hermilo LIzares and Robert Francis Coscolluela, who are running for councilors. |
