Bacolod City – Reacting to the revelation of Senator Miriam Santiago regarding a planned coup de etat against President Benigno Aquino III, the police, army and local officials of Bacolod City expressed doubt that it will prosper.
Councilor El Cid Familiaran said, “That will remain a plan; only a few will support if it is true. Everybody wants peace and besides, PNoy’s trust rating is till high.” Councilor Caesar Distrito said, “I may had criticized the President for the mishandling of the fallen 44 SAF, his lack of empathy, his absence during the arrival honors for the dead heroes, his friendship with and defense of suspended – now resigned – PNP Chief, but am not in favor of calling for his resignation or toppling him through coup d’ etat. I’m just for the President to reform his character, set his priorities well, and be afactor in uniting the entire Filipino nation. I am still in favor of him to finish his term. Anyway, election would be next year. As a lawyer, I am against doing it the extralegal way.” Maj. Ray Tiongson, chief, Division Public affairs Office (DPAO) 3rd Infantry Division, Philippine Army assured: “The troops of 3ID remain loyal to the constitution and follow the chain of command. Also, the Division remains focused on its mandated task: that is to ensure the security and safety of the people, through the implementation of IPSP Bayanihan.” On the part of the police, Sr. Supt. Ricardo dela Paz of Police Regional office 6 said, “It (a coup) is not gaining ground. PNP leadership adheres to the chain of command and remains loyal to the constitution. We’ll not be distracted and remain focused on our jobs.” by Edith B. Colmo Manila Bulletin
