“I still maintain my neutrality.”
This was the clear and precise statement of Councilor El Cid Familiaran in the midst of media speculation last week over his presence at the State of the District Report (SDR) of Lone District Congressman Evelio Leonardia where some of them perceived as an indication of political partnership. “I want to clear my position that until now, I am an independent council member in the august body,” Familiaran said. He said he was invited to attend the birthday and SDR of Leonardia. “Following 2013 election, the administration reaches me to support the program of Mayor Monico Puentevella until now, as long as it is for the general welfare or common good,” he added. Asked over the possibility of vice mayoralty candidate, either the two warring factions Leonardia or Puentevella, Familiaran said that he is open to any political aggrupation with either the two camps for the opportunity will come once. He reiterated that as of now, there is no formal offer from “Grupo Progreso” to join as bet for Vice Mayoralty race. Familiaran assured his constituents to work in the remaining months of his term before 2016 election. He believes that position is temporal and personal relationship should go beyond politics.* by: Clarence Locsin Negros Daily Bulletin

There has been no formal offer yet.
This was the response of Bacolod Councilor El Cid Familiaran when asked about speculations that he will seek the vice mayoralty post under the Grupo Progreso of Representative Evelio Leonardia. Familiaran said there have been no formal talks with the political group of Leonardia. “It would be an honor for me to be considered for the position, but I haven’t received any offer or invitation yet,” the councilor pointed out. He claimed that should he be offered the position, “I will think about it and maybe consider it.” “Opportunity only comes once,so I will definitely think about it and decide on it,” he said. He, however, clarified that it’s only Leonardia who can decide whether or not to invite him to the group. Familiaran said he is open to any invitation from any political group, but in the mean time, he prefers being independent. Familiaran’s presence at the birthday celebration of the congressman, during which the latter delivered his State of the District Report, raised speculations that the councilor will be the runningmate of Leonardia in the 2016 polls./WDJ By: Glazyl Jane Marie Y.
