BACOLOD City – The Bacolod Housing Authority (BHA) is facilitating the needs of at least 100 residents in Barangay 41 who will be moved to the Arao relocation site in Barangay Vista Alegre here. BHA head Josephine Segundino said they have been working with the Bacolod City Water District (Baciwa) and the Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) to install power and water lines in the relocation site. “It is not only an overnight work to put up the basic needs like water and electricity in the area,” she said. “Millions of pesos are needed for electrical and water installation.” Segundino said Baciwa general manager Juliana Carbon and Ceneco general manager Chuchie Destriza already know about these issues in the city’s relocation site. Councilor El Cid Familiaran, chairman of the committee on urban poor, housing and resettlement, recently received a letter from the residents of Barangay 41 who will be affected by the township project of a property developer. In their letter, the residents said they will not move to the relocation site until the city government has installed electricity, streetlights and water pumps in the area. Mayor Monico Punetevella said he will meet with the Baciwa Board today to discuss the problem of the residents. He is confident that Cenco will cooperate because the city government has paid its monthly electrical bills. The city government paid some P6.1 million to the power utility firm for its electric bill for the month of May, he said./PN By MAE SINGUAY
