The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) has deferred action on the resignation of Councilor El Cid Familiaran from the People’s Law Enforcement Board (PLEB) pending further discussion on the matter. In a letter dated August 7, 2015, Familiaran informed the SP that he is not only resigning as chairman but as member of the PLEB as well. The councilor said he filed his resignation because he believes that he is “overworked.” Aside from being the PLEB chairman, Familiaran also chairs the SP Committee on Urban Poor, Housing and Resettlement, and Committee on Police, Security and Jail Management. There are “pressing issues” in my committees that need more attention, Familiaran claimed. More than 15 cases have been resolved since Familiaran was appointed as chairman of the PLEB, a body formed by virtue of Republic Acts 6975 and 8551 which is tasked to receive, investigate and rule on complaints filed against officers and members of the Philippine National Police in every local government unit./GJMYM, WDJ By Glazyl Jane Marie Y.
