GRUPO Progreso (GP) standard bearer Bacolod City Representative Evelio Leonardia regained the city’s mayoralty post from incumbent Monico Puentevella during the local elections held Monday, May 9. Following the 100 percent transmittal of canvassed votes before 3 a.m., Leonardia garnered 120,231 while Puentevella got 97,993 votes. Congressional candidate Vice Mayor Greg Gasataya becomes the successor of Leonardia after he garnered 85,467 votes against MKK congressional candidate former Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson, with 84,431 votes. Their partymate Councilor El Cid Familiaran won as vice mayor, garnering 108,360 votes against MKK vice mayoral candidate businessman Vladimir Gonzalez’s 86,611 votes Eight GP candidates and four MKK candidates filled the 12 council seats. GP candidate Ricardo Tan, a former councilor, landed the No. 1 spot, with 118,927 votes. He is followed by GP reelectionist Councilor Caesar Distrito, with 115,161 votes. Neophyte Cindy Tan Rojas also of GP, wife of outgoing Councilor Roberto Rojas, took 110,054 votes for the third place . Former vice mayor and GP councilor Renecito Novero was number four with 109, 156 votes followed by re-electionist GP Councilor Em Legaspi Ang, with 107, 807 votes for fifth place, and former Councilor Elmer Sy, with 101, 423 votes, for the sixth spot. Re-electionist MKK Councilor Ana Marie Palermo follows at No. 7, with 99,003 votes, while fellow MKK reelectionist Councilor Wilson Gamboa Jr., garnering 97,660 votes, took the eighth spot. The ninth slot is occupied by GP’s former councilor Dindo Ramos with 96, 665votes while Bartolome Orola, brother of former Bacolod Rep. John Orola Jr., landed the 10th place with 95, 328 votes. In number 11 is re-electionist Councilor Claudio Puentevella, who has 94,677 votes, with fellow MKK reelectionist Councilor Sonya Verdeflor, having 93,170 votes, in the 12th spot. City Election Registrar Mavil Majarucon-Sia, chair of the City Board of Canvassers, said the proclamation of winners will be held today. She added that a manual audit of three precincts which will be randomly chosen by Commission on Elections Manila will also be conducted.
