BACOLOD City – The Philippine National Police (PNP) City Advisory Council here favors the proposed permanent site for Bacolod City Police Office’s (BCPO) Police Station 2. Councilor El Cid Familiaran, chair of the advisory council, said the proposed site on a corner lot of Andres Bonifacio Elementary School on 19th Aguinaldo Street here is more “strategic” and “ideal” compared to the police stations’ former office on Lacson Street. It is near “problem areas” — barangays 1, 2, 3, and 4 — which need heightened police visibility, said Familiaran. He assured that Police Station 2 will no longer worry about a possible eviction since the city government owns the property. Mayor Monico Puentevella has pledged his support to BCPO regarding its problem with Police Station 2. He is awaiting BCPO’s budget proposal and structural plan, said Familiaran. PNP will fund the construction, he added. Owners of some business establishments within Police Station 2’s jurisdiction were willing to provide fuel for their service vehicles, said the councilor. Police Station 2 personnel vacated their office on 17th Lacson Street last month after the lot owners sold the property. Their administrative office and detention cell were temporarily housed at BCPO headquarters in Barangay Taculing. They accept blotter reports at the barangay hall in Barangay 5./PN By MAE SINGUAY
