Former Bacolod vice mayor Renecito Novero, who is running for the same post in the 2013 elections, yesterday said he should not be blamed for the decision of the three outgoing Nationalist People’s Coalition councilors not to support their party’s vice mayoralty candidate, Greg Gasataya.
Outgoing Councilors Homer Bais, Al Espino and Dindo Ramos had publicly announced that they are not supporting Gasataya’s bid but are backing up Mayor Evelio Leonardia and Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson, who are running for congressman and mayor, respectively. Bais and Ramos said they are supporting the candidacy of Novero who, they said, solicited their help, while Espino declined to comment on the matter. NPA also said hat. Novero also said that an apparent “break-up” among the NPC group, he has nothing to do with it. He added that aside from Bais and Ramos, Espino had also signified his support to him. Novero said he is elated over their decision to back up his bid to because the three outgoing councilors know his capacity having been with them at the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod for several years. Novero, also an NPC member, run under Grupo Progreso as Congressman in 2007 with Espino, Bais, Gasataya and Ramos, and sought re-election to the same position under the slate of former Bacolod Rep. Monico Puentebella. He also said he and the six candidates for councilor in his group dubbed as the “Magnificent Seven” will no longer announce whom to support for Mayor and Congressman. Novero is running for vice mayor of Bacolod together with Councilors El Cid Familiaran, Archie Baribar, Sonya Verdeflor and Elmer Sy, businessmen Hermilo LIzares and Robert Francis Coscolluela, who are running for councilors.
