(l-r) City Councilor Elcid Familiaran; Bacolod City Vice-Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson; Police Senior Supt. Ricardo Dela Paz, Officer-In-Charge, Bacolod City Police Office and Police Chief Inspector Levy Pangue, BCPO Traffic Chief during the Dialogue-Conference for Peace and Order at Room 10, University of St. La Salle in this city recently. Key local government officials vowed yesterday, January 31, during the dialogue-conference with the top administrators, student leaders, parent representatives, alumni and faculty of USLS to take action regarding the growing problem related to peace and order and traffic congestion along La Salle Avenue, C.L Montelibano Drive and B.S Aquino, Jr. Drive.
Among the City officials present were Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Say-son, Councilors Dindo Ramos and El Cid Familiaran, City Administrator Roger Balo, BCPO Chief Sr. Supt. Ricardo De La Paz, Traffic Chief Insp. Levi Pangue, Police Station IV Chief Leilani Garcia and Villamonte Brgy. Captain Andre Victor Las Piñas, Kgd. Philip Montelibano and Kgd. Friday Solinap. Mayor Bing considers the problem on peace and order a major concern and added that La Salle is a top priority and it will be as such under his leadership. "We are here in full force because we want to listen to the concerns of our people regarding peace and order and help in the implementation of traffic rules," Leonardia said. Among the specific issues raised were poor police visibility and insufficient lighting around La Salle Avenue resulting to crimes, traffic congestion caused by vendors, lack of discipline among students and numerous jeepneys and tricycles parking on the streets and the lack of pedestrian lanes. Sayson proposed that a No Parking on Both Sides of the Street policy be implemented so as to give way for loading and unloading zones. Meanwhile, USLS replied by stating that the University is amenable to the policy since it is already part of an existing ordinance that just needs implementation. It was also recommended by Sayson that USLS will make an appeal to the home-owners of Capitolville to allow vehicles to enter the subdivision during peak hours to drop or pick-up pupils of L’ecole to decongest traffic. Sr. Supt. De La Paz has assured the Lasallian body of the reactivation of the police outpost near C.L Montelibano drive and to cover the La Salle area with police patrol. "We are assigning Station IV to put up and reactivate the Community Police Assistance Center immediately and ask Brgy. Villamonte Tanods to be designated with the police," De La Paz said. The mayor is looking forward to a partnership with USLS as a clear example of a public-private partnership to be implemented in Bacolod City. Meanwhile, USLS President and Chancellor Br. Raymundo Suplido, FSC thanked the presence of top local officials and added that the University is willing to work with the government to find common solutions for the welfare of the Lasallian community, the city and the whole province.
