A public hearing on the installation of streetlights and water pumps at the Arao Relocation Site is scheduled on August 27. This was revealed yesterday by Bacolod Councilor El Cid Familiaran, chairman of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Urban Poor, Housing and Resettlement. Familiaran called for the hearing after the more than 100 families from Barangay 41, who will be evicted from the Araneta property to give way to the township project of Megaworld Corporation, had asked the councilor to address their concerns before they will transfer to the relocation site. Familiaran said he will invite the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), City Engineer’s Office (CEO), National Housing Authority (NHA), Bacolod Housing Authority (BHA), and representative of the Araneta family to discuss the request of the affected residents. Familiaran added that the Yanson Realty Development Corporation (YRDC) and the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corporation (Bredco) will also be invited to the hearing since the two firms had earlier expressed their intent to help improve the relocation site./WDJ By Glazyl Jane Marie Y.
