A resolution expressing condolences to the family of Antonello Joseph “AJ” Perez, a teenage actor who died last April 17, 2011 after his provincial show at Dagupan City, Pangasinan, was passed by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod yesterday.
Authored by Councilors Caesar Distrito and Em Legaspi-Ang, the resolution said AJ Perez, a member of ABS-CBN’s Star Magic in Batch 13, died of multiple head injuries after a car accident while on his way to Manila after a provincial show in Dagupan City. The son of Bacoleño Gerardo Perez and Bicolana Marivic Perez, AJ Perez was then considered as the next big star of ABS-CBN and was supposed to again bring honor and pride to Bacolod City in the TV and film industry, the resolution said. The SP also passed a resolution requesting Social Welfare and Development Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Soliman to include solo parents, their children and waste pickers as beneficiaries for the conditional cash transfer. Authored by Councilor El Cid Familiaran, the resolution said the recent crisis brought by the high cost of fuel made various sectors complain about the exorbitant prices of goods, which compelled the national government to include in the CCT beneficiaries the marginalized farmers and fisherfolk. The SP also approved on first reading an ordinance institutionalizing the programs and services to solo parents and their children. The proposed ordinance said the adverse effects of the economic crisis continue to burden the unemployed and under-employed poor people in Bacolod City and those who suffer the most under this sector are the solo parents and their children. The proposed ordinance was authored by Familiaran and co-authored by Councilors Sonya Verdeflor and Em Ang.*CGS BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO Visayan Daily Star
