The committees on laws, government assets and urban poor, housing and resettlement of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) of Bacolod have jointly conducted a committee hearing held at the SP Session Hall yesterday. The hearing centered on the request of Mayor Monico Puentevella submitted to the city council for authority to sign to dispose the Manokan Country property situated at the Reclamation Area in Barangay 12. Puentevella is proposing to sell the 13, 783 square-meter property to private developers to make the area a world-class landmark which will still be called Manokan Country. He claimed that the tenants failed to pay their delinquent accounts and stall rentals. City Treasurer Giovanni Balalilhe said that as of date, the delinquent accounts of the tenants including the arrears and penalties totals P 6.5 million. A series of public hearings will also be conducted soon to further discuss the matter before the city council approves the request of the Office of the City Mayor. Councilor Ana Marie Palermo presided the conference with Councilors El Cid Familiaran, Alex Paglumotan and Caesar Distrito and was attended by different stakeholders in the city.* CMO-PIO)
