The Barangay Granada contingent won the Barangay Dance Festival at the public plaza Saturday amid a heavy downpour, a press release from the city said.
The barangay’s “Pasigabong Festival” performance also won the best in costume, dance and choreography special awards, and barangays Singcang and Villamonte won second and third places, respectively, the press release also said. The festival, now on its second year, was participated in also by barangays Estefania, 2, 17, Bata, 16, 30, and 19 and was witnessed by Mayor and Congressman-elect Evelio Leonardia, councilors Em Ang and El Cid Familiaran, Butch Gerasmo of the City Tourism Office, and DOT regional officials. It was covered by the GMA Television Network. Leonardia congratulated the barangay officials and the station for making the festival a big success, and acknowledged the talents of Bacoleños and the city's achievement as MassKara champion here and abroad, the press release also said. He also discussed the Charter Day celebration, as backed by Commonwealth Act 326 of June 18, 1938, and invited everyone to the program and fireworks display rites at the Bacolod Government Center tomorrow. A day before the Barangay Dance Festival, the historical photo exhibit was held at SM City Bacolod, on the theme “Ang Mga Adlaw Sang Paghanduraw”, and Leonardia thanked historian Modesto Sa-onoy, Tourism Committee chairman John Orola, and Johanah Macaranas for their assistance in the preparations, along with the Bacolod Cultural Foundation, Negros Occidental Historical Foundation, Art Association of Bacolod-Negros, and SM, the press release also said. The one-week celebration will end with the observance of Dr. Jose Rizal's birthday at the Rizal Elementary School in Bacolod City on Wednesday, the press release added. THE VISAYAN DAILY STAR
