He said last night’s induction ceremony was historic as it was the first time it was held in the Provincial Capitol, the seat of power of the provincial government. With the theme, "Rekindling journalistic values amidst the challenges of the times," Marañon, who was also the guest speaker, challenged the officers to "work together" with his administration for the progress of Negros Occidental. "Let’s work together. We have many things to do," he said, adding that "we are open to suggestions." "As media practitioners, you are in the field, you know the commentaries of our people, so if they say some people in the Provincial Capitol are doing something wrong, tell us immediately and we will correct them," the governor said. But while there are challenges of the times, Marañon said, there is also a huge potential for Negros, citing, among others, the growth of the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry brought about by the advent of the information and communications technology. Also gracing the occasion were Bacolod Rep. Evelio Leonardia, Councilor El Cid Familiaran who represented Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander Col. Jon Aying, and Laarni Aguilar who represented 3rd District Rep. Albee Benitez. Also in attendance were past presidents and members of the club. BY: Danny Dangcalan NEGROS DAILY BULLETIN
