The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod had approved a resolution requesting the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in Negros Occidental to extend appropriate training for parents or guardians waiting for their children in schools.
According to Councilor El Cid Familiaran, author of the resolution, the request was coursed through TESDA provincial director Lorena Yonque. In his observation, Familiaran said most parents are staying for three to four hours waiting in school premises until the dismissal from classes of their children, thus, the need for the training. “Instead of waiting and doing nothing, we requested to provide training to the parents and guardians,” Familiaran said. The resolution states that in order to fulfill the thrust of the government to provide opportunities for ordinary people, using idle time of these parents and guardians to avail of technical and capacity building is feasible. It added that the assistance of TESDA is absolute necessary to the parents and guardians to have an appropriate training or capacity-building. Familiaran said the Department of Education in Bacolod had approved to use the school covered court or gym as venue of the training. By Jay Mangogtong Watchmen Daily Journal
