A resolution directing City Treasurer Annabelle Badajos to levy amusement taxes on malls, hotels and restaurants, karaoke bars and/or similar businesses in Bacolod City that will show the boxing bout of boxing champ Manny Pacquiao and Shane Mosley, was approved by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod Wednesday.
Authored by Councilors El Cid Familiaran and Catalino Alisbo, the resolution said boxing as an entertainment is considered a form of amusement which falls under the City Revenue Code and is taxable. It said the businesses will profit from the entertainment that will show the boxing bout of Pacquiao and Mosley on Sunday by charging entrance fees. It added that Bacolod will benefit if it collects amusement taxes from these establishments. Meanwhile, the city government will provide viewing areas for the public to watch the Pacquaio-Mosley fight on Sunday. These are at the Sum-ag gym, Handumanan gym, Granada gym, Magsungay gym, Tangub gym, Banago and the BAYS Center. The SP also approved a resolution urging the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office, through the Office of the Mayor, to implement the anti-jaywalking policy based on Section XIII of City Ordinance No. 338, Series of 2003, or an ordinance regulating traffic, parking, towing and other transporting or commuting activities in the streets of Bacolod City, establishing the route system of public utility vehicles and trucks, and redefining the loading and unloading zones in the city. Another resolution also passed requests BTAO head Chief Insp. Luisito Acebuche to implement City Ordinance No. 53, Series of 1988, or an ordinance declaring edifices and other structures built on public roads and sidewalks as nuisance per se, and providing penalties for violation of the law.
